The first exhibition in the UK of Dame Eileen Mayo's work came to Eastbourne this year, organised by curator and author of our book on the artist, Sara Cooper.
Previously known only for her work as model for artists such as Harold and Laura Knight (above) and Dod Proctor, this was a wonderful opportunity to see Mayo's own creative output. The exhibition revealed her extraordinary talent at working across multiple mediums including illustration, lino-cutting, wood-engraving, stamp and poster design, tapestry design and calligraphy.
